About the Faculty
Dr Ankur Sinha is a Professor at IIM Ahmedabad, specialising in Operations and Decision Sciences. He is also the Co-chairperson of the Centre for Data Science and AI and a Board Member of the Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE). Dr Sinha’s work focuses on the application of data science, optimisation, and decision-making to solve business challenges. He has more than a decade of experience teaching and conducting research in big data and business intelligence.
Dr Sinha completed his Ph.D. in Business Technology from Aalto University in Finland and his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur. His teaching portfolio includes courses like Data Science for Business, Non-linear Optimization, and Decision Analysis, which he has delivered to MBA, doctoral, and executive-level students. Dr Sinha has been recognized for his contributions, including the Best Paper Award at the IEEE World Congress in 2018 and the Early Career Research Award from India’s Science and Engineering Research Board.
Dr Sinha’s ability to connect academic theories with real-world applications ensures learners gain a strong foundation in decision-making and data-driven business strategies.
EPAT Teaching
Dr Ankur Sinha previously delivered EPAT sessions covering the fundamentals of machine learning and quantitative analysis. His sessions included an introduction to supervised, unsupervised, and transfer learning techniques, with practical insights into algorithms such as Decision Trees, Random Forests, Logistic Regression, SVMs, and neural networks. These sessions also explored clustering techniques like K-Means, as well as neural network architecture and training algorithms like backpropagation and gradient descent.
While these topics are now covered by Jay Parmar, Dr Sinha’s foundational work and contributions continue to guide EPAT’s approach to machine learning education.
